Charles is a founder partner of unw and in overall charge of our tax advisory and compliance services. He has 25 years specialist tax experience, nine as one of Her Majesty's Inspectors of Taxes in Oxford and London. He was then a senior tax manager for four years with Price Waterhouse before joining one of unw's predecessor firms as a partner.
Charles advises a range of corporate clients, including some that are audited by larger firms. Last year he advised on one of the largest Enterprise Investment Schemes ever approved by Inland Revenue Head Office. His experience is often called upon to help settle Revenue investigations and technical disputes.
Before starting his career in tax, Charles read Modern History at Oxford University (he claims to have once been the leading authority on the Cephalonian Troubles of 1848-9 during British Rule of the Ionian Islands) and for three years he taught history part time to Oxford undergraduates. His son and stepsons are now all adults but he finds that any hoped-for spare time has failed to materialise, owing to the demands of his wife's replacement family of rare breed Ryeland sheep.
