‘Brexit’ – what does it mean for the charity sector?
Date: Wednesday 21st September 2016
Time: 4pm – 5.30pm
Location: UNW LLP, Citygate, St James’ Boulevard, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 4JE
On 23 June, the UK voted to leave the European Union. The UK will now start the complex process of formally exiting, and establishing a new relationship with, the EU.
We are delighted to welcome guest speaker James Garbutt, Investment director at Rathbones, to our next briefing on Wednesday 21st September. James will be joined by Mark Hetherington, VAT partner at UNW.
The referendum revealed an electorate widely divided by age, location and even country. While financial markets come to terms with the consequences for the UK economy, as well as the wider EU and global implications, James will highlight some key issues for charities and trustees to consider.
The UK was compelled to introduce VAT as a form of taxation following our joining of the “Common Market” in the early 1970s, so will Brexit signify an end to VAT as we know it? Mark will provide his thoughts, and also give a quick round up of other topical VAT developments for the charity and not for profit sector.
