In May this year, data protection law will change with the introduction of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Despite the uncertainty surrounding Brexit, the transition from the current Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) will still go ahead as planned effective from 25th May 2018.

Much has been made of how GDPR will affect the day-to-day running of charities, and the ways in which fundraisers can lawfully contact and attract potential new supporters and donors has been a particularly hot topic. The new regulations have far tougher punishments for those who fail to comply with the new rules surrounding the handling of personal data.

In our first charity briefing of 2018, we are delighted to be joined by Stephanie Coulson, Associate Solicitor at Muckle LLP, who will be providing a timely reminder on the key changes coming under the GDPR, and will also give out practical advice on what charities should be doing now to work towards compliance in preparation for May.
