Taxation

UNW boasts one of the largest independent specialist tax teams in the North East, and our proactive approach ensures that our clients receive the appropriate support and expertise.

Our team collaborates with clients across a wide range of sectors and business types such as entrepreneurial and family owned businesses through to large national and global entities. Regardless of whether clients require a general advisory matter such as maximising capital allowance claims or corporate structuring, or a more technical service that such as advising on share schemes, the Enterprise Investment Scheme or the availability of entrepreneurs’ relief, we strive to provide the same level of assistance and input across the board.

We have a sound knowledge of the rules relating to both Research and Development (R&D) and Patent Box regimes. Working collaboratively with you, we ensure that any tax relief claims are prepared and submitted in a timely and efficient manner.

Our personal tax team provide a comprehensive compliance and advisory service, taking the time to understand each client’s needs and ensure that our advice is both pertinent and appropriate. We also assist with trust and estate planning to ensure the efficient transfer of assets across the generations, considering all-round family circumstances.

Our VAT offering is headed by a specialist VAT partner whose clear and concise advice is recognised both regionally and nationally, whilst our specialist employment tax team, led by the only employment taxes partner in the region, can offer tailored solutions on salary sacrifice schemes alongside advice on payroll and wider employee benefit packages.

Collaborating closely with our Corporate Finance department we also offer rounded expert advice on acquisitions, disposals and MBOs/MBIs to help you understand the tax implications of any potential deal.
