Accountants calculate double money for charities
Charitable accountants at unw are in training to embark on their most ambitious mission yet, to raise over £10,000 for North East children.
Partners and staff are doubling the efforts and money raised in previous years by embarking on a coast and castles cycle followed by the Great North Run in a bid to raise crucial funds for CHUF (Children’s Heart Unit Fund) at The Freeman hospital, Gosforth, and Newcastle charity The Sunshine Fund.
Over a third of the workforce will be cycling approximately 200 miles from Edinburgh to Newcastle via Melrose, Seahouses and Holy Island starting on July 29 before running the iconic half marathon in September.
unw audit and assurance partner Michael Morris said: “This year we wanted to raise even more money for North East charities so we had to up the stakes.
“Sponsorship, support and the experience and hard work put in by the whole team is the only thing that is going to help us achieve our goals of raising a sizeable amount for charity, and we are urging the public to help sponsor us to reach our goal.
“One of our clients has a daughter who has benefitted from the Children’s Heart Foundation so we are delighted that more volunteers within the firm have decided to take part and in two separate events to try to double the money we can raise for such worthy causes.
“We are trying to drum up as much support and sponsorship as possible now to hit our targets.”
Client and co-founder of global software giant Sage, Graham Wylie, is an active supporter of CHUF in support of his daughter. He said: “The children's heart unit at the Freeman Hospital is one of the North East's finest assets and saves the lives of hundreds of children every year and is something the North East should be very proud of.
“I am personally delighted that businesses like unw are happy to support the fund-raising for the unit and keep it at the forefront of children's heart surgery."
CHUF purchases equipment, facilities and aftercare for the Children’s Heart Unit and the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Freeman Hospital and The Sunshine Fund pays for equipment which improves the lives of seriously ill or disabled children in the region.
